Super sized/heavy innovation is pictured as Burkhalter inserts a 70,000 pound rotary dryer inside a modular rack that's 70 feet off the ground. The dryer could not be modularized because its resting point centers between two modules. Due to exceptionally close headroom/tolerances, a custom cantilever spreader bar system was needed. Counterweights were attached to the opposite end of the lifting device to facilitate moving the overall main lifting block away from the structure. The cantilever with counterweights configuration allowed for the lateral placement of the dryer inside the module. This very technical lift saved the customer time and money by avoiding a "top entry". A top entry approach was incorrectly bid by a multinational competitor of Burkhalter. However, the customer recognized that this would have required the fabricator to deliver an unfinished product that needed further assembly at the installation site. If crews had to finish assembly at the customer site, there would be extreme conditions and safety issues to overcome. The crews would be working more than 100 feet in the air while finishing the assembly. A top entry would also make the multimodal transport of the modules more difficult and costly, because extensive piping and electrical would remain exposed. |
