Pristine Safety Record Drives Business to Burkhalter
Burkhalter received a 120 foot long chemical plant reactor weighing nearly 400,000 lbs. at an Ohio River terminal that was destined for chemical plant. Chemical plants are especially tricky because of confined spaces with extremely expensive infrastructure on all sides. The vessel was transported into the plant according to a carefully-planned move that required the removal of fences, and other obstructions. A major pipe rack over the haul route did not require removal due to two Burkhalter innovations. The use of low-profile hauling saddles and removable tailing lugs allowed the huge vessel to squeeze under the pipe rack with an inch to spare.
Other bidders incorrectly suggested unloading and reloading the vessel on this vital plant artery. Burkhalter overcame the obstacle with sound engineering, experience, and innovation--a safe procedure that which saved the customer time and money without having to shut-down an emergency access route.
Burkhalter analyzed soil capacity, underground piping, and clearance diagrams in developing a step-by-step procedure for several lifts and the removal of the old 430,000 lb. reactor. Upon completion, Burkhalter received a "job Well-done" review by the owner and general contractor, and was invited to bid on future projects.
