Burkhalter won the 2000 SC&RA Rigging Job of the Year with an extremely technical rigging assignment for a power plant lift and set of a 600,000 lb. generator stator at the Red Hills Generating Station in Mississippi.
Burkhalter delivered an award-winning performance--the standard for what the SC&RA considers as its Rigging Job of the Year. Under a turnkey contract, Burkhalter fully synchronized a complicated combination of logistics, lifting, rigging, and transport from the port to the slab. The multimodal move was comprised of ship’s gear, deck barge, special train/rail, and super-sized highway and specialized over-the-road transport.
What made the final rigging more complicated was the final destination of the 600,000 lb. generator stator. It had to be lifted 45 feet and moved 100 feet laterally to a raised slab/pedestal--inside a building. Burkhalter deployed a safety-engineered solution that lifted, moved, and set the generator stator without incident.
Burkhalter engineers solved the technical aspects of the project with an 880,000 lb. lift capacity frame, strand jacks mounted across the top beams, and an integrated hydraulic lift/slide jacking system. Upon completion, it was another award-winning performance for Burkhalter.
